Hey everybody! Welcome to the Boon Show on MyPulse Radio. My favorite Christmas group right there.
SPEAKER_11:Favorite?
SPEAKER_08:TSO. Coming to the Pond Secret this weekend.
SPEAKER_11:Are you going to see them?
SPEAKER_08:I want to. I don't have tickets yet. My new strategy on getting tickets is to wait till the last second.
SPEAKER_11:You think it's a good one?
SPEAKER_08:Because if you go on um sites like Game Time or Tick Pick, you can um get them really cheap because they drop down a few hours before the show. So if you don't plan you you don't have to plan it, and you just figure, uh, we'll go or not go, then it's great.
SPEAKER_11:Yeah, and you go to a lot, like you and Jackie go to a lot of concerts.
SPEAKER_08:I love concerts. Because that's like I told you before, that's a place where everybody's at peace. Because everybody agrees on the reason why they're there. They're not arguing about anything, they're there to enjoy great music.
SPEAKER_11:That is a true statement.
SPEAKER_08:It's the only thing, yeah. You can't even go to sporting events because you got fans of both teams. You can't do anything.
SPEAKER_11:Right.
SPEAKER_08:But go there. You can't even go to church without people disagreeing, right?
SPEAKER_11:So this no one disagrees at. Right. That's right.
SPEAKER_08:There we go.
SPEAKER_11:So you just have to make a decision what you're going to drink and eat, right?
SPEAKER_08:That's right. And that's not hard because most of the time we get it ahead of time, so you don't pay the big prices when you're going to be able to do that.
SPEAKER_11:That's right. That's right. That's right.
SPEAKER_08:You just uh sit down and enjoy yourself. You don't have to crawl over people all the time. If you get a seat at a concert, do you like being in the middle of the row or on the end?
SPEAKER_11:No, no, no, end for us.
SPEAKER_08:But the only thing on the end is you have everybody coming in and out.
SPEAKER_11:Well, it depends on where you sit. So, like in Clemson, we sit on the end, but we sit on the side that's closest to the band. Uh-huh. Um, and so everybody walks down us, but they're on the far side, so we don't see them anyways. Like you're looking to the right. No. Now, if I sat on the other end of the aisle, then it would block the football field every single one. So I really think it depends on where you sit. What about you, John?
SPEAKER_08:Um, it doesn't really matter because if you're sitting in the middle, then it's inconvenient for you. And if you sit on the end, it's more comfortable. But like you say, sometimes you get people that go to concerts that they don't really watch the concert.
SPEAKER_11:No, they go get another drink.
SPEAKER_08:They come in, they sit down, then they stand up, they go get another drink, and they come in and sit down, same thing at a football gun for 20 minutes, I don't know, smoke break or something, and then they come back.
SPEAKER_11:Or people are standing up and you're sitting down, like they're in front of you and they're standing up, and they're not watching either whatever the event is. They're paying attention to their phone. And yet they're standing up and getting yes. Like I don't have an issue with that, but sit your butt down. So I can see.
SPEAKER_08:Especially when we go to concerts now, uh-huh. It's usually they're old groups. These are the ones we grew up with. Like the people are in their 70s now, okay? So it's funny. We went to the to see the Eagles about a year and a half ago. They were in Columbia on that farewell tour. Now they're out at the sphere in Las Vegas.
SPEAKER_11:Me too.
SPEAKER_08:Um, but anyway, Don Henley, you know, the lead singer, uh, who I really liked growing up. And you figure back in the day they were really popular, people were probably standing and screaming for him a lot and all that with all their music. And this time he actually yelled at people to sit down so people could see. I'm like, my, we have all gotten so old. Yeah that no one, if you're standing up, you're just getting in the way. But you know what I think. He said, sit uh blank down so people can see.
SPEAKER_11:And I think that's kind of courtesy for your listeners. You know, people are there, they're paying money, and people can't see, so sit down so everybody can see.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah.
SPEAKER_11:I don't have an issue with that.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah. Well, he didn't even.
SPEAKER_11:Kudos to him.
SPEAKER_08:That's right. Anyway, we got a Christmas show. We do. Which we yeah.
SPEAKER_11:You kind of threw it together in the last minute, but I think you made a very good choice.
SPEAKER_08:I had a thought. I I was like, should we try to get uh somebody from the outside that's really Christmassy and all that? And I'm thinking, you know, I kept coming back to one person. Yeah, because there's nobody more Christmasy thanks to the other. There's anybody more Christmassy than this person.
SPEAKER_11:Even, you know, like our student producer sitting beside us, like she's pretty uh Christmassy today.
SPEAKER_08:I would say so.
SPEAKER_11:However, I think this person actually might out Christmas her.
SPEAKER_08:So is she is uh ACTC's director of hype for the holidays. Yes, Tanya Dickerson. She is uh also a biomedical science and health science instructor, but that's all secondary. Yes. Because you hype up the holidays around here, and every good workplace, as we said in our promo, every good workplace has somebody that does that.
SPEAKER_11:That's right.
SPEAKER_08:And she's the one that does it.
SPEAKER_11:And she has a sidekick. Andrew Atkins is like real close to her, yes, but not to the level that she has. That's right.
SPEAKER_08:He's on his way. But he is not to that level yet. I mean, just look, if you're watching on YouTube, I mean, just look. I mean, from the from the earrings, the gingerbread man earrings, um to the vest, even down to the shoes. And you know that's all Christmas.
SPEAKER_11:Normally she starts this what, December 1st. I do yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_08:So not before. It has to be December 1st.
SPEAKER_10:I start as soon as we come back from Thanksgiving break.
SPEAKER_08:Okay. Yeah. Yeah, because we need to talk about that because we want to know why you're so Christmassy. But and normally on the show, if we have a guest and it's the first time you've been on, uh, we spend a lot of time getting in your background and all that. We're not gonna do that today. Okay. Okay. Um because we want to talk Christmas. But to give us a you know, a quick background of what brought you to the career center, uh, let's start with that professionally. Just tell us, you know, about your professional career really quick.
SPEAKER_10:Okay. Um, so I've been a nurse since 2002. Um, I had gotten into school nursing, and um prior to that I worked in labor and delivery at AMED for a good long while. And um Erica Scott, who works here, um, remembered me from there, and there was a job opening here, and Erica reached out to me through Facebook kind of randomly one night. I had not talked to her in years, and reached out to me and said, Um, have you ever thought about teaching? And I'm like, Yes, but I don't know if I don't know if this is the right time. I don't know if I'm qualified, I don't know. She was like, I I think you would be a good fit for this job if you're interested. You need to get a resume submitted, and the rest is just kind of history. So I've been here for five years.
SPEAKER_08:It's starting to get up there. Five years. That's good. That's good. You made it through the first cycle. That's right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_11:Now it's getting to the easy part. Yeah, yeah. First couple is difficult, isn't it? Yes, boy. It's a lot different. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08:It's it's rough. But but now, you know, around here, they don't bother you at all. Which is great. My son always hear that? My watch going off. My son always calls and he knows I have a show.
SPEAKER_11:And John, you should put that on um on mute. I should. He's told me that so many times.
SPEAKER_08:You know, try to put it on yours goes off way more than mine does.
SPEAKER_11:I'm but mine's on mute.
SPEAKER_08:But uh all right, now tell us about your family. You have you have kids.
SPEAKER_10:I do. I have four children.
SPEAKER_08:And they are sort of.
SPEAKER_10:Yes. My youngest is about to be seventeen.
SPEAKER_08:She's here at a career center.
SPEAKER_10:Yes, she is a junior, and um so she'll be back on campus for cosmetology again in the spring. She loves it.
SPEAKER_08:Uh which is before you go on, Holly. This is the weirdest thing with the juniors, okay? We have them as sophomores, and we don't see them for over a year.
SPEAKER_11:I know.
SPEAKER_08:Over a calendar year. But we're like not forget about these things.
SPEAKER_11:We had to make some decisions on whether that's the best or not. And from what I hear from everybody, that's the best.
SPEAKER_08:Ultimately it is, because then they get to lead right into their senior year. But but in the meantime, it's like Who are you guys? It's like I haven't seen you for a year.
SPEAKER_11:But then you'll have them for a year and a half every day. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08:Uh but tell us about the rest of your family.
SPEAKER_10:Uh so then I have three sons that are older than her. I have a 20-year-old. Um, his name's Andrew. Um, he's been at Tri-County majoring in nursing. I have a 23-year-old. Yeah. I have a 23-year-old who um is also at Tri-County, um, taking some classes, wants to be a PE coach.
SPEAKER_08:Okay.
SPEAKER_10:And then I have a 25-year-old who lives in Memphis. He graduated from Ferman to teach for America and is um teaching at a Montessori school in Memphis.
SPEAKER_08:Wow. He's teaching those smart kids.
SPEAKER_10:Yeah.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah. Montessori. Went to Fermin. You went to Fermin, didn't you?
SPEAKER_11:I did, I did, I did. I got my master's at Fermin.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah, good for you. It's a good school.
SPEAKER_11:It is. And now her husband is also in education. Oh, yeah, what's he doing? He's a principal at Ware Shells Primary School. All right. Wow.
SPEAKER_08:All right. So there you go. There's the background. We move on. Um but how are the holidays for you, first off, before we get to what it you are now, which is legendary. Um, how was it growing up in your house?
SPEAKER_10:Um so oddly enough, um I did not grow up believing in Santa. And so I think some people kind of find that surprising considering how much I love Christmas and everybody just associates Santa with Christmas. But um that is not to say that we did not celebrate Christmas and we did not celebrate it big. We did. And uh we were also told just because we didn't believe in Santa did not mean that we went and spoiled that for anybody else, so we did not. But um having said that, so since we didn't believe in Santa and we didn't wait till Christmas Day to open our gifts, we got to open ours one day early. So we went to bed with all that anticipation on the 23rd, and we woke up and we uh we opened our presents on the 24th. And um I can remember, I mean, there's home videos galore where my parents look like they are absolutely exhausted because we would wake them up at two o'clock in the morning because we could not sleep, like we were just so ready. Sometimes they'd try to t tell us to go back to sleep and wait on somebody else to wake up, but we were up early. Um and so anyway, Christmas was like a big, big deal. We were so excited, we you know wanted to know what was under the tree just like anybody else would have. Um and our traditions were centered more around Jesus, you know. Um like I grew up, like um just church was a big part of it. Um but the gifts and the family time were always like just precious. And when I look back on that, like that warm feeling um on Christmas Eve for us, but that warm feeling where everybody was just around, everybody smiling and just happy. I that's just I wouldn't trade that for anything. And I wanted to be able to give that to my kids, and we did choose to do Santa when our kids were uh coming along, so and I don't regret that. Um but I also don't have any hard feelings toward growing up the way that I did either.
SPEAKER_08:So all right. All right. Um so again, that any special things you do nowadays? I mean your kids are scattered nowadays and uh they still come back, everybody come back and get together for Christmas?
SPEAKER_10:They do. And we still um as old as my kids are, we still do a few things that we did ever since they were little. We put out reindeer food. You know, it's mixed with oatmeal and some glitter. Um we put out the reindeer food.
SPEAKER_08:Um they don't have like stomach problems right now.
SPEAKER_10:I've never asked them.
SPEAKER_08:Oh, okay. I mean, you with your medical background, I mean glitter and oatmeal doesn't sound uh I think they enjoy it, honestly.
SPEAKER_11:Yeah. Um but the glitter's not for them to eat.
SPEAKER_10:They don't eat the glitter. It's to help them find it. Right.
SPEAKER_08:Oh, she said glitter and oatmeal.
SPEAKER_10:Well they do. They find the oatmeal because the glitter will be like, Yes, yes. See, I haven't done this. That's one tradition.
SPEAKER_08:I'm sorry. How did you do that? That's why the show the show is so educational. Yes, it's for everybody, including myself.
SPEAKER_09:Yes, right. So why we're doing it out of school.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah.
SPEAKER_09:Um To be fair, I didn't know that either.
SPEAKER_08:You didn't know the glitter thing?
SPEAKER_09:Yes.
SPEAKER_08:Well anyway.
SPEAKER_10:We still bake um cookies and put out cookies and milk, and we still read um, we have a certain book that has several Christmas stories in it, and we still read a Christmas story on Christmas Eve. And um my husband still takes a bite of the cookie and takes a little sip of the milk and leaves them. So as old as my kids are, we still do that and they look to see if it was done. So we do the same. Yeah, that's awesome. And I'm not gonna stop. Why would we?
SPEAKER_11:And we still deliver presents Christmas morning. There's some stuff that you just gotta throw back. That's right. Right, right.
SPEAKER_08:Well, that sounds cool. So um during the show tonight, we're gonna go through um some different little, I don't know if you call them games or such, or but ways to find out uh your views on the on the holidays. So before we get to um that, because we all aspire, you know, part of us anyway. We aspire to be you. I mean, the the dressing up and all that, I don't know if I can do that. I don't know. But um and when did that start for you?
SPEAKER_10:The dressing up.
SPEAKER_08:Have you always been the one to do all that?
SPEAKER_10:Like, so I've always had like festive t-shirts and sweatshirts and all of that, but um I would say when I started working as a school nurse at an elementary school, um, like you're asked to dress up a lot, and I never said no. Like, whatever you asked me to be, I'm gonna be that. And I you don't just wear the outfit, you have to be the person. So if I'm an elf, if I'm dressed as Buddy the Elf, then I am Buddy the Elf. If I'm dressed as Mrs. Claus, then I am Mrs. Claus. Like that is the way you have to do it. You you have to embody the whole character.
SPEAKER_12:That's right.
SPEAKER_10:And I love it. And every year I add an extra yes, that's exactly right. But every year I have to I add an extra piece of something to my wardrobe.
SPEAKER_08:Oh yeah? Okay. So that's gonna happen in ten years.
SPEAKER_11:You're gonna start in November 1st.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah, getting all another closet. So when did it start that, you know, you started on right after Thanksgiving, every day.
SPEAKER_10:Well, I mean, I have enough stuff. I wanted to be able to wear all my things.
SPEAKER_08:And so it's amazing. Yeah, like and you know, I don't get up to that part of the building too often unless I'm in trouble and have to go to the office. But uh but I was talking to Tanya the other day and got to see all of her decorations and such. It's amazing. It is. My kids, let's just say their creativity lies in other Which is perfectly fine.
SPEAKER_11:Everybody's a little different.
SPEAKER_08:Which is fine. Uh I just told them for our door to do platypals in a snowstorm and just put a couple eyeballs and that was it, and just that would be the decoration on the door. But no, she's got blood bags that are stockings.
SPEAKER_12:Yes.
SPEAKER_08:She's got uh all kinds of elves all over the place, and they're all named for the people in the class. Well, bottles, medicine bottles filled with lights on the door with uh that looks like a big operation game project thing uh with all Christmas themed things going on there. It's like uh that's amazing. So so we have uh bowed out. We're like Notre Dame. We have bowed out because uh we didn't think we had a chance to win.
SPEAKER_11:That's right.
SPEAKER_08:So we bowed out of the door.
SPEAKER_11:So you took your ball and went home.
SPEAKER_08:That's right. Somebody else can win the door thing.
SPEAKER_10:That's right.
SPEAKER_08:But uh it's gonna be a fierce competition.
SPEAKER_10:Yeah, really, really good ones. I was walking around looking earlier and I'm blown away.
SPEAKER_11:Yeah.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah.
SPEAKER_11:Uh our PR person, Jen Mazz, is gonna do a video tomorrow of all of them. So we'll see that posted on social media so everybody can.
SPEAKER_08:Just leave ours out.
SPEAKER_11:I was gonna say, skip ours.
SPEAKER_08:Since we have a blue door, we'll just rip what we have down and just say blue Christmas. That's that's us. All right, we're gonna take a quick time out. When we come back, we're gonna discuss some of the holiday hills to die on.
SPEAKER_10:Okay.
SPEAKER_08:That people all debate all the time. And see what you think as the holiday hype director here at ACTC. All right? Okay. More with Tanya Dickerson coming up. You're listening to the Boon Show or watching here on uh MyPulseradio.com and YouTube. Be right back.

SPEAKER_08:Welcome back to the Boon Show of My Pulse Radio. Um, holiday hills that people die on, okay? Not literally. I mean, this isn't that depressing the show. It's not the Halloween show we did.
SPEAKER_11:That wasn't depressing. It was just uh I don't even remember it, so maybe it was.
SPEAKER_08:No, it was it was something. I liked it.
SPEAKER_11:It was not depressing.
SPEAKER_08:But uh okay. First one, and this is uh Tanya, since she is a director of uh Holiday Hype here at ACTC, and uh just looks apart. Everybody would agree if we had to vote around here, everybody would say it was her. So every place should have. A Tanya.
SPEAKER_11:I agree.
SPEAKER_08:But here, uh let's see what you think about some of the debates that go on around the holidays to give us a better idea of what a holiday hype person would think. Okay. First off, some easy easy one right away. Christmas lights should not go up until December 15th.
SPEAKER_10:Oh no.
SPEAKER_08:Much earlier?
SPEAKER_10:Way earlier.
SPEAKER_08:Like how earlier? I mean Thanksgiving.
SPEAKER_10:I say at least by Thanksgiving.
SPEAKER_08:Okay.
SPEAKER_10:But why would you wait so long? Yeah, like just turn on Friday. That I would agree with.
SPEAKER_08:I mean, maybe not the Christmas music at Halloween, but no, no, no.
SPEAKER_10:We were making Halloween, a Halloween decoration in my classroom while listening to Christmas music.
SPEAKER_08:Oh.
SPEAKER_10:Yes. And my kids loved it.
SPEAKER_08:So yeah, but if you're gonna spend all that time putting up the lights, you want to get a good month out of it. Yeah, at least a month. Not ten days. All right. Real trees are a waste. Fake trees smell better and look better.
SPEAKER_10:Okay. So I had a real tree all the way up until um I think it was three years ago, and it was just because of allergies. I had the hardest time letting go of that because I loved going to cut the tree down. The whole everything about it was just great. But because of the allergies, we had to go with an artificial tree. Um, but I'll still go find the little scented things that you can poke in the tree so the tree smells like a real tree.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah, that's cool. It's a real tree, nothing beats a real tree, right?
SPEAKER_10:I know I love a real tree.
SPEAKER_08:I grew up with real trees that had similar things where we would go out, cut the tree down, bring it back on top of the car. Um I remember one time when I was the dad and brought it back, it wasn't tied on the top of the car well, and it fell off the car in the middle of the road. No, this is it. But we did save it. Except I had to hold it on top of the car the recipe. Like with your hand. And it was like 15 degrees that night, and I could not feel my hand when we got home.
SPEAKER_10:This is the thing. And it was covered in sap.
SPEAKER_08:It was like Christmas vacation when he's trying to turn the magazine. But but real trees are just the experience, let alone you know, the the scent when you get in the house and uh keeping the dogs and cats out of them and uh all that kind of thing. But yeah, they're fine. All right. Next one. White lights are better than colored lights.
SPEAKER_10:I think that just depends too. I'm sorry. I love them all.
SPEAKER_08:You love them all?
SPEAKER_10:I do. I have the tree that I have now, since we have an artificial tree. Um, it has the option of having colored or white, and it just depends on what mood I'm in that night. Yeah. Yeah, that's good. Option of having either. I like that.
SPEAKER_08:White lights are always nice and clean, but very nice.
SPEAKER_10:There's something about the colored lights too.
SPEAKER_08:Yes, and when they're planking.
SPEAKER_10:Yes, I kind of like that myself.
SPEAKER_08:Yes, turn out all the other lights and just let look at the tree.
SPEAKER_11:My sweet little granddaughter calls it, she's five, she calls it rainbow lights. Oh, I love that.
SPEAKER_10:And those really pretty LED ones now. They like the colors are just they're beautiful. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08:Mm-hmm. Yes. Um I remember. One one one year, this is not about me, but I keep thinking of these funny stories. When we were very poor because we both got laid off from our jobs, we didn't have a Christmas tree. And so we're looking everywhere for a Christmas tree. And um the one that we found, we finally found somebody who was giving away one, so we put it in a house. It was one of those ones that spins.
SPEAKER_10:Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_08:We didn't do that again once we uh we made a pact that day to be able to buy a Christmas tree for the next year. But it would spin around the entire time. It was interesting. No wonder they were getting rid of it. Um sick watching it. Um okay, next. If you give a gift card, it means you don't care.
SPEAKER_10:No, it doesn't mean you don't care. No.
SPEAKER_08:A lot of people think that. If you give a gift card, oh that's you took the ch the easy way out.
SPEAKER_10:No, some people would prefer a gift card. Like some people I have a sister that every year, if you are giving her a gift and you say, What do you want? Just give me a gift card. Just give me a gift card. Because she'll take them and she'll go on a shopping spree or use it toward some kind of way of pampering herself, whatever, but that's what her preference is.
SPEAKER_08:And they can really choose what they want. Exactly. Yeah, yeah. Don't have to worry about returns and all that stuff.
SPEAKER_11:Especially teenage females. Yes. Right? Speak up, Tannica. Saneca.
SPEAKER_08:I'm sorry. It's Seneca tonight.
SPEAKER_09:Actually, I just I don't even know. I've I've actually never asked for a gift card, and I've never received one, but I kind of now I wish I did. No. They just pick out gifts and I just pretend like I like some of them.
SPEAKER_08:Okay.
SPEAKER_09:Well, there you go.
SPEAKER_08:There we go. Um secret Santa should be banned from all workplaces.
SPEAKER_10:No. No. That's a hard no.
SPEAKER_08:And that is a hill that I will die on. We're not doing it this year. We're not. Well, we have a worthy cause.
SPEAKER_10:We exactly. What we are doing is perfect. I I would do that every year, but I don't think so.
SPEAKER_08:Pooling resources to help someone that's to help a family. Which is awesome.
SPEAKER_10:Yep.
SPEAKER_08:But uh but you're that's one of your hills. You want to do that. I love Secret Santa.
SPEAKER_10:It's so fun. Yeah. We did uh what did we do? Secret it was um Halloween boo basket. Boo basket, that's what it was. And that was fun. It was fun. Try to get amazing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08:I didn't get one of those.
SPEAKER_11:Well, you didn't put your name in to I was supposed to put my name in for Santa. Yes, you have to say I want to pay for this stuff.
SPEAKER_08:I never see it. So it's too late. Santa. Santa She's not gonna be around for Halloween next year.
SPEAKER_12:Oh, that's it.
SPEAKER_08:But anyway, uh Hallmark movies are all the same, and that's why they're perfect.
SPEAKER_10:Yes. I think so. Well, that came quick. Yes, because I will sit and watch Hallmark movies back to back to back. I don't care if everybody um if every story is the same, it does not matter. I love them all. Listen to that. Same template. That went quick. Yes. I love them all.
SPEAKER_08:They all have the nice little happy endings.
SPEAKER_10:You don't?
SPEAKER_09:No. I don't like them replaying the same. Like I know how everyone ends. Yes.
SPEAKER_08:Of course you do.
SPEAKER_09:Happy.
SPEAKER_08:In the middle, there's a sad part, and then they everybody gets back together at the end.
SPEAKER_10:I don't like to watch like scary movies that leave me feel you know, feeling afraid to turn the lights out, or sad movies that end on the sad note where I'm gonna walk away crying for days. And no, like give me something that ends happy every time. I'll take it every time.
SPEAKER_08:Um let's see, I'll skip the next one. That's just rude. Um let's see. Ugly sweater parties aren't fun anymore. They're forced. I mean Do you have an ugly sweater?
SPEAKER_10:I don't have ugly sweaters. I have festive sweaters.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah, festive. I would say so.
SPEAKER_10:I like that. Who exactly is that? It's the gingerbread man with a broken neck. He's got a broken leg and it says snap.
SPEAKER_06:Yeah. Do you know the muffin man? The muffin man! The muffin man!
SPEAKER_08:Oh boy. Um, let's see. Kids today don't appreciate real Christmas cartoons.
SPEAKER_10:I'm gonna agree with that. Yeah. The old Frosty the Snowman, old Frosty.
SPEAKER_11:The old claymation things or whatever. Rudolph, yes, remember Charlie Brown.
SPEAKER_09:Yes. How can you Frosty the Snowman?
SPEAKER_08:You like Frosty the Snowman?
SPEAKER_11:The old version and the old cartoon. Yeah, that too. Have you seen the Rudolph where he goes over to um meet the abominable snowman? Yeah, yeah, the Misfit. The Misfit toys, yes.
unknown:Very cool.
SPEAKER_08:We just had that on the other day. We left it on for our dogs.
SPEAKER_10:Did you?
SPEAKER_08:We had gone out for a while, and it keeps them calm to just hear voices and stuff. So my wife leaves on the Freeform channel, which is playing Christmas movies constantly. Yes. But then when we got home, we wound up just sitting there watching two or three of them in a row. Yeah, yeah. And they were all those ones with uh the one you were just referencing Rudolph and uh Santa Claus is coming to town and uh those ones that were all the stop motion claymation, whatever it was. Um, which now when you look back on it, it's like ooh, that looks pretty ragged. That abominable snowman, man, he was not doing well. But he did need his tooth pulled.
SPEAKER_11:So the little dentist elf guy helped him out.
SPEAKER_08:Uh now what about um putting up your tree? Do do you do that by Thanksgiving or after?
SPEAKER_10:Uh generally it's Thanksgiving weekend for me.
SPEAKER_08:Okay, so right after the big meal, on to Christmas.
SPEAKER_10:Belly's still full, and now it's dead. And up the tree. Yes.
SPEAKER_08:All right. Um, how about this one? The holiday hype person should get their own parking space.
SPEAKER_10:Oh, I like that. I'll take Debbie's.
SPEAKER_08:There's not a whole lot of parking spaces out there right now. That is a true statement. That is true.
SPEAKER_09:We actually have a student of the week parking out there, and I've seen it, but I've never knew that we could actually park there.
SPEAKER_08:Oh, we're supposed to submit somebody for that. I don't know if we've done it.
SPEAKER_09:Student of the quarter person. Student of the quarter, that's it.
SPEAKER_08:Not of the week.
SPEAKER_09:That would be I see uh that's what I meant. But I seen it out there because I accidentally had a park up. Like I accidentally parked up there one day, and I was like, oh crap. And I just stayed up there. And I was like, they have a parking spot? And I've gotten student student of the quarter a couple of times. Yeah, still didn't get that parking spot. Oh, you can thank your teacher for that.
SPEAKER_08:Well, they should just choose somebody. They shouldn't put that anything. Just choose somebody. All right. Um, here's another one the office would uh appreciate. The office should close at noon every Friday in December.
SPEAKER_11:Oh, I agree.
SPEAKER_08:It's a little different for us because we're not an office office where school. I couldn't.
SPEAKER_10:That would be fantastic. But if the whole building could, that would next Friday at least. Yes.
SPEAKER_08:Uh and uh we should have office caroling. People go around to everyone's room. What do you think of that idea?
SPEAKER_10:Yes, I think it's Are you a caroler? I would oh yeah, I would love to do that. And I would like to start at Miss Scott's room. Yeah. Because she could really use a hefty dose of some Christmas cheer.
SPEAKER_08:She was calling herself the grin.
SPEAKER_10:She was. Erica Scott. Erica Scott. Erica Scott.
SPEAKER_08:Well, Stacey too.
SPEAKER_10:We could use some too. We could put them in the same room. Yes, we could.
SPEAKER_08:Let's go out and sing some carols.
SPEAKER_10:Yes. Who wants to do that with me?
SPEAKER_08:I'll do it with you. Let's do it. Okay. That was fun when we used to go out and do that. When I was in high school, we used to go to you know, like nursing homes and stuff. That was fun.
SPEAKER_09:They took us to a nursing home and we went uh Christmas carol caroling through the hallways. It was the best thing ever. People really appreciate it.
SPEAKER_08:Kind of like they appreciated our float in the parade this weekend, Holly.
SPEAKER_11:You mean all for the floor? We were three for three. Four for three because we got Williamston last week's.
SPEAKER_08:Well, the one parade though didn't have judges.
SPEAKER_09:Oh, yes.
SPEAKER_08:So we went three first places.
SPEAKER_09:I think we won anyway, so we just count it for the yeah.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah, we'll just count that. Four for four. So uh yeah, we're gonna keep moving. We don't need to take any breaks here.
SPEAKER_11:No, let's go. This is too much fun. That's right.
SPEAKER_08:All right. So uh that was some of the holiday hills to die on. Uh I gave some student surveys over the last uh couple of weeks to see what they thought, because we had to stay in touch with this younger generation, you know. And the holidays, you know, they've changed a bit. Yeah. The way the kids approach them. It's not like it's not so traditional. That's why I like the what you're doing with your family, keeping tradition alive. It's tough to do. Tough to do. Not only are people, you know, scattered about, but um, they're just not interested in the same things as we were when we were growing up. So uh, but the first thing I did a survey, I just want you to guess. Uh first survey I did was Top Christmas movies. Now, there are a few kids that came in, more than a few, that said, I don't like any of them. I don't watch Christmas movies. I'm like, what's wrong with you? What's wrong with your upbringing? I didn't know that, but I was like, uh no movies. Movies, no close. I'm so surprised. I mean, they're everywhere to watch.
SPEAKER_10:And it's sad.
SPEAKER_08:And there's so many of them out there, and there's new ones released every year. Every year. Um, so but what of the ones that did vote, I've got the top five here. It's like Family Feud. Top five answers on the board. Tanya, give me uh one of those top five movies.
SPEAKER_10:Home Alone.
SPEAKER_08:That is number one. Ding ding ding. You want to play or pass?
SPEAKER_10:Um, I'm gonna play. Okay.
SPEAKER_08:Give me another top five movie.
SPEAKER_10:The Grinch. How the Grinch. Which one? How uh with Jim Carrey.
SPEAKER_08:Okay, that's number three.
SPEAKER_10:Okay.
SPEAKER_08:Number three, the Grinch Live. Uh keep keep going. Um, give me another one.
SPEAKER_10:Oh. Um I love that.
SPEAKER_08:I love the Jim Carrey movie. Elf was tied for fifth, which was a little low, I thought. I thought all the young people liked it.
SPEAKER_10:Yeah.
SPEAKER_08:But even that's been around. How many years though? Like 20 years or something? We'll probably come up in trivia later on. Um but it's something like that. It's been around for 20 some years. Yeah. Um, okay, so you've got one, three, and five. How about some even numbers here? Get in another movie. What about um top Christmas movies of the teenagers of today? I'm trying to at least the ones that are in the media broadcasting class.
SPEAKER_10:Um I'm trying to think of things that whenever I've shown a Christmas movie, what have my students requested?
SPEAKER_09:So there's obviously another Grinch.
SPEAKER_08:You're pretty smart, aren't you?
SPEAKER_10:Oh, so is the new Grinch on the list? That's number two.
SPEAKER_08:That's the uh Benedict Cumberbatch guy, that's how you say it.
SPEAKER_10:Yep.
SPEAKER_08:That's the one where the cartoon. Yeah. And that one was good too.
SPEAKER_10:Yeah, it was um okay.
SPEAKER_08:So number one is Home Alone, you got that. Number two, the new Grinch. Number three, the live action Grinch. Uh and you got one of the ones, excuse me, that was number five. That being elf, so we're still missing two.
SPEAKER_10:Oh man. Um Polar Express.
SPEAKER_08:Believe it or not, Polar Express did not make the list.
SPEAKER_11:Really? How about Christmas Vacation?
SPEAKER_08:Christmas vacation.
SPEAKER_11:Yes, I shouldn't have.
SPEAKER_08:Coming in at number four, even though Holly's family was not supposed to answer because she didn't get three straight. No, I'm just kidding. This is fine. Um, so there's one more left. That was tied for number five. What do you think it was?
SPEAKER_10:No, I was thinking like the Santa Claus.
SPEAKER_08:No, no. That got a couple of votes, but not enough.
SPEAKER_11:I mean, what I mean, what about Charlie Brown's Christmas? No, that one's uh no one even mentioned that.
SPEAKER_10:Nobody even nobody's ever asked to watch that.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah.
SPEAKER_10:I don't even know. Can we get a hint?
SPEAKER_08:Well, I'll just tell you because if I there's no hint I can. It's the other Grinch. The original. So I'm not sure. So three of the five choices were the Grinch.
SPEAKER_10:So what you're telling me is that the youth of today are a bunch of Grinches.
SPEAKER_08:They love the Grinch. They are Erica Scott's people.
SPEAKER_10:That's right. That's right.
SPEAKER_08:So, yeah, so Home Alone Wins number one, the new Grinch number two, the live Grinch number three, Christmas vacation number four, and the tie for number five was the original Grinch and Elf.
SPEAKER_11:Wow.
SPEAKER_08:So yeah, Grinch was a big winner. All right, here, the second survey was top gifts for 2025, according to our teenagers. We have the top four answers on the board. One you are not gonna get, but I think you'll get the others. What do you think the kids are wanting for Christmas? Or at least thinking, you know, teens are wanting for Christmas.
SPEAKER_10:Do I just say like, can I say clothes?
SPEAKER_08:Yes, ding, ding, ding. That's number three. Clothes from basically anywhere. All right.
SPEAKER_11:How about a gift card? Really?
SPEAKER_08:I gotta get my I gotta get my sound effects.
SPEAKER_11:I know it.
SPEAKER_08:Before the beginning of the second half. I was thinking that. Not a gift card, no. Um Tanya? Um You can answer too. The newest app. I mean, you know Tina. The newest iPhone is number two. She's good at this. Yes. If we ever do an ACTC family feud, I want her on my table.
SPEAKER_09:Yes, exactly. PlayStation 5.
SPEAKER_08:So, no, no, no video game stuff was on there. Um, iPhone 17 was second, and clothes were third. So you got the number one and the number four.
SPEAKER_11:How about headsets?
SPEAKER_08:No. Didn't make the list. There were some votes, but didn't make the list. Oh, you were missing a lot of things.
SPEAKER_11:Do shoes fall in a separate category than clothes? It wouldn't have made it easier. How about how about something big like a car?
SPEAKER_08:No.
SPEAKER_11:No.
SPEAKER_08:This is much smaller. The two answers are very small and not not all that expensive.
SPEAKER_12:Money.
SPEAKER_08:Money would uh no, that isn't on there. Think physical gifts. Think trends. Jewelry? No. Come on, Danica. What's the big trends now?
SPEAKER_09:I don't know.
SPEAKER_08:What's everybody carrying around or talking about?
SPEAKER_09:Stanley's.
SPEAKER_08:No, the Stanley's that's that was like all last year. Yeah, they're doing like a wobble wall. Yes, that got a couple of votes, but did not um pride. Okay, am I gonna have to give it? One's a food.
SPEAKER_09:Food? Pizza.
SPEAKER_08:I want a pizza for Christmas.
SPEAKER_09:Hey, you still owe us for a food.
SPEAKER_08:Bring them out with a pizza box for this.
SPEAKER_09:For Christmas.
SPEAKER_10:Who's asking for food for Christmas?
SPEAKER_08:Guess what it is? It's Dubai chocolate.
SPEAKER_10:Oh I had some, a student had some the other day and they said it was nasty.
SPEAKER_08:It is different.
SPEAKER_09:It's pistachio. It's pistachio. I like pistachio.
SPEAKER_08:It's different, but man, there a number of them are going crazy about this. But you're still missing number one. Number one! And this was like a landslide number one.
SPEAKER_10:I feel like I need a hint. Yes, you can't. Or just tell us.
SPEAKER_08:Danica.
SPEAKER_10:What?
SPEAKER_08:What are kids always talking about? What are kids carrying around on their keychains? What are kids?
SPEAKER_09:What are they carrying? Cars? That's exactly what's.
SPEAKER_08:Laboo boos!
SPEAKER_09:Ew, what is it? What is a laboo boo? They don't know. The worst thing ever. It's so ugly. My friend.
SPEAKER_08:I only found out when one of them brought it to school earlier this year. When I used to, but they that's what everybody's an animal? It's a little weird looking. I don't even know the origin.
SPEAKER_09:I would always like I would always drive my yep. I would always drive my friend around, and we ended up finding some, and she ended up buying like it was it was$48 for one little one.$48.
SPEAKER_08:Somebody knows how to market because that's a big trend.
SPEAKER_09:They're at the gas station in the new ice cream place in Williamston. They're at the gas station.
SPEAKER_08:At the gas station. That's always a good place to go, Shavin. Let's go to the gas station.
SPEAKER_10:And they put them on their keychain. Yeah, or their Bebex. I'm gonna ask I am gonna ask about the right way.
SPEAKER_08:L A B U B U S. Uh that was number one, iPhone number two, clothes number three, to buy chocolate number four. All right, now the next part is, and this is the last survey part, but it's two parts. Best things about Christmas, worst things about Christmas. Let's do the uh let's do the best first. What do you think the top three answers are on the board of what teenagers think the best things about Christmas are?
SPEAKER_09:The decorations in the park. Oh, what school out.
SPEAKER_08:School out is number three.
SPEAKER_09:Wait. Family.
SPEAKER_08:Family's number one. Good job. There's one more.
SPEAKER_10:Gifts.
SPEAKER_08:Gifts slash money is number two.
SPEAKER_10:There you go.
SPEAKER_08:You always love it when on Family Food they do something slash the other thing, and it's usually something. It's like really weird. Yeah, they don't. But that's what it was. Best things about Christmas, according to our kids. Family, gifts and money, number two, out of school. Number three. Worst things about Christmas, what do you think they said?
SPEAKER_11:Family.
SPEAKER_08:Family was number one.
SPEAKER_11:Again.
SPEAKER_10:But they're not in my family.
SPEAKER_08:But to be fair, a lot of them have good members of family and other members of family they don't want to see. But family was number one on both lists.
SPEAKER_11:I knew it.
SPEAKER_08:Now, what else would be on the worst thing?
SPEAKER_11:We heard talking about it this morning. Oh my gosh, we gotta go to my grandma's house.
SPEAKER_10:What else could be on that list?
SPEAKER_08:It could be bad.
SPEAKER_09:The cold.
SPEAKER_08:The cold, that's it. Weather. Weather is number two. Now that you all you got left is number three.
SPEAKER_10:Yeah, I got one. Like I think that's the only one that I've got. It could also be the gifts because That is it.
SPEAKER_08:You guys nailed it. Like some people don't like their gifts.
SPEAKER_10:I heard somebody talking about that today.
SPEAKER_08:And bad gifts, number three.
SPEAKER_10:I haven't heard one of my students said that her grandparents, one of her grandparents always gives her clothes that don't fit and that she would never wear. And she has to take off.
SPEAKER_08:So yeah, who wants to deal with that? There you go. So uh I'll tell you what, we've been talking for a while. So I'll take a quick timeout. When we come back, we will have our either-or segment that uh Tanya will tell us uh what we should do for the holidays, and we'll have our big holiday trivia face-off, Holly against Tanya.
SPEAKER_11:Oh gosh.
SPEAKER_08:Holiday trivia coming up.
SPEAKER_11:Yeah, I know you probably got this girl. And I don't like to lose, but I bet you got this.

Now you mentioned you uh answered some of these in the uh Hills to Die on, but there are some other ones, just like you know, quick action here to see what you think, okay? Um classic ornaments or homemade ornaments?
SPEAKER_10:Homemade okay.
SPEAKER_08:Tinsel or no tinsel?
SPEAKER_10:No tinsel.
SPEAKER_08:Really?
SPEAKER_10:Really?
SPEAKER_08:Just garland or you do garland or just ornaments?
SPEAKER_10:I have a bunch of ornaments. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08:Are they like family-based things? They have a lot of tradition wrapped up in them.
SPEAKER_10:Our kids put the ones that they've made individually, they put their own on the tree. And so my oldest son, who's in Memphis, his are in a box right now, waiting until he's home so he can add them when he comes for Christmas.
SPEAKER_08:All right. Awesome. Hey, that's I'm gonna stop by their house. I'm gonna be one of her kids.
SPEAKER_10:I love that.
SPEAKER_08:I want to be one of her kids this Christmas. Um I'll just come in my PJs. All right. Um tree toppers, star or angel? Angel. Okay. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Wrapping paper. Yeah. Elegant decor or chaotic kids decor.
SPEAKER_10:Chaotic kids.
SPEAKER_08:There you go. Inflatables or no inflatables.
SPEAKER_10:No inflatables.
SPEAKER_08:Don't like that. They're too much trouble.
SPEAKER_10:Yeah, and every time you turn around, it gets really cold and they're all flat on the ground. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08:Or they get found in compromising positions because of the deflates and all that.
SPEAKER_10:So yeah. True.
SPEAKER_08:It's not not something you want to do. You don't want to make the news or anything.
SPEAKER_10:No.
SPEAKER_08:Um eggnog or hot chocolate?
SPEAKER_10:Hot chocolate. Okay.
SPEAKER_08:Hammer turkey.
SPEAKER_10:Uh turkey. Pumpkin pie or pecan pie? Pumpkin.
SPEAKER_08:Sugar cookies or gingerbread?
SPEAKER_10:Sugar cookies.
SPEAKER_08:Do you make all the stuff?
SPEAKER_10:Um I do.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah. Uh homemade. Well, yeah, that was the next question. I didn't even look. Homemade treats restore bought. We know what the answer is there.
SPEAKER_10:Homemade.
SPEAKER_08:Peppermint or cinnamon in it?
SPEAKER_10:Peppermint.
SPEAKER_08:Candy canes, love them or hate them?
SPEAKER_10:Love? Yes. I absolutely love candy canes.
SPEAKER_08:Do you hang them on the tree?
SPEAKER_11:No, I don't do that. So do you like the traditional peppermint ones with a like flavored? Or it doesn't matter. It really doesn't matter.
SPEAKER_10:I love candy canes. Okay.
SPEAKER_08:Okay. Um Hallmark movies or classic movies. Hallmark. Still with the Hallmark.
SPEAKER_10:We knew that.
SPEAKER_08:Ice skating or sledding.
SPEAKER_10:Sledding. Ice skating hurts when you fall.
SPEAKER_08:Of course, you could sled right into a tree. That's uh how I know about that. Um watching football or watching parades.
SPEAKER_10:Parades.
SPEAKER_08:Okay, maybe I'm not staying over at your house.
SPEAKER_10:Yeah. Well, don't worry. My husband gets the hold of the remote, so opening.
SPEAKER_08:Well, you said opening gifts Christmas Eve or Christmas morning. Christmas morning.
SPEAKER_10:And now you do Christmas Eve. So I do Christmas morning with my children. We still spend the night at my mom's house on the 23rd and wake up and do gifts with her. And then we have a breakfast, we go home, we have another dinner that we typically go to that evening, and then we do all of our things, and Christmas Day is ours.
SPEAKER_08:Secret Santa or White Elephant?
SPEAKER_10:Hmm. I do both. Yeah. Um White Elephant is a lot of fun. I know. I love elephants. Yes, yes. It is a lot of fun.
SPEAKER_08:That always gets me in a bad mood because I finally get the thing I want somebody steals it from me.
SPEAKER_10:You have to play your cards right. You have to know how many times has it already been stolen. Right.
SPEAKER_11:And there's all kinds of rules for those guys. It's like you need to know the rules ahead of time prior to start. Yes, absolutely. So that you can make sure that you're not. Absolutely. You can't do that. It says in paragraph four, section three. We are going to follow those rules. Because it's all about the win.
SPEAKER_08:Stay home or travel.
SPEAKER_10:Stay home.
SPEAKER_08:How far away does your mom live?
SPEAKER_10:15 minutes. There you go.
SPEAKER_08:No, that is staying at home. Mariah Carey or Michael Bublet.
SPEAKER_11:Michael Bublet. Really? I would think that's the only one I really disagree with you on.
SPEAKER_08:Well, Mariah Carey's like one song. It is, it's one song.
SPEAKER_10:And I like that one song when she thaws out and she starts singing it. I like that.
SPEAKER_08:We already said Caroline's good. Let's see. The Grinch or Rudolph.
SPEAKER_10:Oh, Rudolph. Oh.
SPEAKER_08:Office potluck or catered lunch?
SPEAKER_10:Potluck.
SPEAKER_08:You never know what you're gonna get. You don't. Ugly sweater day or pajama day?
SPEAKER_10:I said there's no ugly sweaters.
SPEAKER_08:Okay, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. She came out. Festive.
SPEAKER_10:Get it right, John. I love them all, but um I like a good sweater.
SPEAKER_08:I know what the next one is, too. Decorate your desk, yes or no?
SPEAKER_10:Yes.
SPEAKER_08:Mine's decorated with scattered papers. I try to keep them with white with red ink. Very festive. Um, holiday bonus. Cash or extra PTO? Cash. Yeah. Holly was handing out PTO today. It was great.
SPEAKER_11:I did hand out a little bit of PTO today. That was nice.
SPEAKER_08:Pay time off. So yeah, parades are fun. Parades, you know, especially on one day where we spend all day out there going to them. I kind of dread it when it before it gets there, but then when I'm out there have a great day.
SPEAKER_11:It's fine. I dreaded waking up.
SPEAKER_08:It was fun all day.
SPEAKER_11:It really was. You should join us. I should.
SPEAKER_08:You should. That's right. It really is fun. And we just win.
SPEAKER_11:Yeah.
SPEAKER_08:I was starting to feel sorry for the other people that put so much work into their floats, and I was like, wait till you smell. There was a poor other somebody else tried to do Polar Express.
SPEAKER_11:Yes.
SPEAKER_08:I felt so bad. It was a church too, and they did this little gospel express thing. It was really cute.
SPEAKER_12:Really cute.
SPEAKER_08:Until we pulled up the side, and we're like, hey, what's going on there? Gospel. It was a locomotive barn and our smokestack. Yeah, and our loud speakers there. Take that to church. It was, they did a good job. I love winning. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_10:They're probably listed.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah. Well, it won't be any more. Let's see. Elf on the shelf, cute or creepy?
SPEAKER_09:Cute.
SPEAKER_08:Not the way my daughter does it.
SPEAKER_09:How does she do it?
SPEAKER_08:She puts them all over the house in in these weird settings, let's say. Outdoor lights, tasteful or griswalled?
SPEAKER_10:Tasteful.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah, not too much.
SPEAKER_10:No, I don't want not too much.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah. Regift or never re-gift.
SPEAKER_10:Don't re-gift.
SPEAKER_08:Not even at work.
SPEAKER_10:I think you should not re-gift.
SPEAKER_08:Holiday cards? Send them or skip them. Send them. Yeah. Even nowadays when everybody's like, like written little stamp.
SPEAKER_10:I think it's still really sweet to get on. Do you not? It is nice. Do y'all not do them?
SPEAKER_08:Holiday. I don't anyway. Holly. I just called her holiday. Um we don't do them. Does the school do them?
SPEAKER_11:Yeah, I mean we have a Amy's making a digital one for us so we can send it on a digital one.
SPEAKER_08:Nowadays it's Yeah. That's good. You're not wasting money on postage this show.
SPEAKER_09:Everyone buy their first.
SPEAKER_08:I always get it in my I get the card in my mailbox. And my wife is always like, why didn't she just hand it to you? Holly's like, got all this money to send it out on postage. Why don't you just hand it to me?
SPEAKER_11:What are we talking about? I must have the cards.
SPEAKER_08:When you used to send them all out.
SPEAKER_11:Oh yeah, I don't do that anymore.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah, you sound like the guy from Christmas Vacation. Holiday bonus? We stopped doing them years ago.
SPEAKER_11:I wish I could give a bonus. I really do. I wouldn't have a big one.
SPEAKER_08:Jelly of the Month Club?
SPEAKER_11:I mean, any kind of bonus. I wish I could, but you know, it's just part of You're fine.
SPEAKER_08:Um we're all happy.
SPEAKER_10:Yes, we are. Yes.
SPEAKER_08:Um, family photos, posed or chaotic?
SPEAKER_10:I like a little bit of the chaos. I think it's nice to catch people kind of in their element.
SPEAKER_08:All right. And uh Snow Day, magical or miserable?
SPEAKER_10:Magical.
SPEAKER_08:It can't be miserable.
SPEAKER_10:No.
SPEAKER_08:If it goes on to the next day, then it then it's just I don't know.
SPEAKER_10:I like it too. I even did a little forecast last year for the snow day. Did you? I sure did.
SPEAKER_08:What do you mean you did a forecast? You didn't saw my inside.
SPEAKER_10:I did. Really?
SPEAKER_08:You did a video for that.
SPEAKER_10:Sure did. I'm the reason why school's closed. Yeah. That's great.
SPEAKER_08:They were talking just the other day like we were going to get snow.
SPEAKER_10:Yeah, not either.
SPEAKER_08:And then the next morning you got to get it. And then they broke our hearts. Up, up, no snow.
SPEAKER_10:Yeah. I think enough people didn't turn their pajamas into inside out and do the snow dance. That's the problem. Yeah, I agree.
SPEAKER_11:I start doing the snow dance early. Early.
SPEAKER_08:But the good thing is that we didn't get days off that we had to make up and all that.
SPEAKER_10:True. That's true.
SPEAKER_08:That's the only silver line.
SPEAKER_10:That's the only dead downside to a snow day.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah, yeah. Um mall Santa. Fun or terrifying?
SPEAKER_10:Terrifying. Sorry.
SPEAKER_09:Santa. Santa. And she's wearing a Santa Santa.
SPEAKER_12:Santa.
SPEAKER_09:My fun fact, my um manager at Bojangles is actually going to be a Mall Santa. Oh wow. And he kept asking everybody if uh anybody wanted to be elves, because they need elves too. I said, no thanks. Some good things.
SPEAKER_11:Did you say I can be uh Santa Jr.? Yeah.
SPEAKER_08:Well, you see the the Mall Santa's in a lot of the movies are not the give them, they portray them in a bad light.
SPEAKER_10:That's right.
SPEAKER_08:Bad light. Yeah. But um like Christmas story is one of the best ones. It just kicks them down the slide. Shut your eye out. Oh well. All right, now's the time of the show that we've been waiting for. The great trivia contest. Uh what number should we go up to? Like seven, five, yeah, that's great. Six, seven?
SPEAKER_09:Sure.
SPEAKER_08:Um eight, nine. Okay, between Holly and um and Tanya. I didn't forget your name. I was just looking at the question. Um so uh let's start with our guest, Tanya. And the first one to we'll do the first one to five. Uh we'll win our trivia contest, okay? Some of these questions, kind of difficult. You really have to you know nail it. Others gonna be easy. Okay, really easy. So, and here's how the rules go. We'll just go back and forth that way you don't have to worry about if because you know Holly's gonna argue. If you both like answer it at the same time, we gotta go back and look at the film to see who did it a split second earlier. So we'll just go back and forth, but if you get it wrong, then she can steal.
SPEAKER_11:Okay. Does she get a hand? Do I get a handicap? Because technically she's so much more of an expert than I.
SPEAKER_08:That's not true, Holly. And you're we all know, you know everything. You get a handicap when you're the same. Okay, so um, I'm just going in order. So if an easy one comes up, uh, I don't, you know, it's not intentional that I'm giving it to anybody. It's just the order of the questions.
SPEAKER_11:I hear you, John. Why are you looking at me?
SPEAKER_08:Uh, because I know you're gonna be, you know, suspecting something foul is going on. Never. All right, start with Tanya. And you're keeping score, Danica. First one, five wins, okay? Um, what year did Elf come out? There we go. We were just talking about that earlier. You know the answer?
SPEAKER_10:2003.
SPEAKER_08:That is right. 2003. Now my gosh. We knew it was about 20 years ago, right? But 22 years ago. Can you believe that though? 20 years ago?
SPEAKER_10:Holy cow.
SPEAKER_08:It seems like they just made it, like five years ago.
SPEAKER_10:Yeah. Like how many times have I watched that? I know. Holy cow.
SPEAKER_08:Oh, so uh one-nothing. Okay. Holly, um, I'll stay in order. Um, Home Alone 2, Lost in New York, features what famous hotel?
SPEAKER_11:The Trump Hotel.
SPEAKER_08:Um yes, and no, it's uh it's not a total correct answer. The um they walk through the Trump Hotel.
SPEAKER_11:They walk through the Trump Hotel.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah, yeah. I'm gonna go to the Trump Hotel.
SPEAKER_11:Me, me, me. I think so.
SPEAKER_08:What what what do you think it is, Tanya?
SPEAKER_11:The Plaza?
SPEAKER_08:There you go, the Plaza Hotel.
SPEAKER_11:Is it owned by Trump?
SPEAKER_08:It was I I believe he owned it, didn't he? I think he did. It was the Plaza Hotel.
SPEAKER_10:He at least made an appeal.
SPEAKER_08:We might have to go longer than five because Holly's not getting any. All right, because now we're right back over to Tanya. And uh that's just too easy. I can't ask that one.
SPEAKER_11:Hold that for me, John.
SPEAKER_08:Because she's already up to nothing. Right.
SPEAKER_11:Come on.
SPEAKER_08:This is like Clemson against Syracuse or something. Um what Christmas song does Buddy the Elf sing in the shower with Jovi?
SPEAKER_10:Baby, it's cold outside.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah, of course she would know that.
SPEAKER_10:Of course. I actually knew that one.
SPEAKER_08:All right, here you go. This is this is a good one for you, Allie. In a Christmas story, what gift does Ralphie want?
SPEAKER_11:The little shot, the BB gun.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah, what's it called?
SPEAKER_11:The red, red, red, red, um, red raider. Is it red raider?
SPEAKER_08:I'd love to give it to you, but what is it, Tanya?
SPEAKER_10:The Red Rider, BB?
SPEAKER_08:Oh, yes, the red rider. This is a blowout. All right, Ollie, it's your turn, though. Who tries to steal Christmas in Hooville?
SPEAKER_11:Oh, the Grand.
SPEAKER_08:All right, there we go. Ollie is on the board.
SPEAKER_11:Four to one. I kind of have some halves in there.
SPEAKER_08:We have to go past five p.m.
SPEAKER_11:Trump should be a half.
SPEAKER_08:Um we might have to, yeah. And we'll go past 5 p.m. as well. Um all right, here's one that could be tough. And see, I'm giving it her turn.
SPEAKER_10:Okay. Okay.
SPEAKER_08:Because I didn't know this right away. What is the name of the angel in It's a Wonderful Life?
SPEAKER_11:Clarence.
SPEAKER_08:Did you know that, Holly?
SPEAKER_11:I can say yes, but no, absolutely not. I did not. Clarence. I mean, and it went quick. Do you watch that? I have seen it, but I haven't really paid that much of attention to it. Yeah, I'm not on.
SPEAKER_08:It's what, five to one though? It's got to get a little closer. We can go for a couple more minutes. You in a hurry, Holly? No. I keep getting it.
SPEAKER_11:Somebody's out work at six o'clock.
SPEAKER_08:Are they trying to give you answers?
SPEAKER_11:No, somebody keeps messaging me though.
SPEAKER_08:Uh is that that door is a little bit more.
SPEAKER_11:Is she working? No, we have a concert tonight.
SPEAKER_08:She has a concert tonight. Yes. She's in that too? Yeah. Is there anything she's not in?
SPEAKER_12:Oh my gosh. Anyways, keep going.
SPEAKER_08:Anyways, um focus. Uh yeah, I'm gonna skip a couple because we don't have time. Focus. But um okay, it's Holly's turn, right? Okay. What is the best-selling Christmas song?
SPEAKER_11:I'm just saying.
SPEAKER_08:I can't go ahead, John Millar. The grudge, you got it. I'm sorry. You should have this. What is the best-selling Christmas song of all time?
SPEAKER_11:Oh, that is um Mariah Carey's song. Yes.
SPEAKER_08:Tanya.
SPEAKER_10:Oh, is it not? Um, I was thinking a different song.
SPEAKER_08:What is it?
SPEAKER_10:White Christmas?
SPEAKER_08:That is correct. Bing Crosby's White Christmas is the all-time. Wow. I'm sure she's catching up. But he had a big head start.
SPEAKER_11:He did, true. So uh some decades. So well, I'm impressed, Tanya.
SPEAKER_08:Since Tanya's getting all these points, let's go back to Hollywood. I want Holly to get one or two. What here's another song question, okay. What Christmas song did Brenda Lee record at age 13?
unknown:Oh, Jesus.
SPEAKER_08:No, it wasn't that one. He has a lot to do with Christmas, but uh that was not the answer. Go ahead.
SPEAKER_11:Um Brenda Lee.
SPEAKER_08:I I I've not been. No, come on. I I there's only one Brenda Lee song. Tanya?
SPEAKER_10:I'm thinking, I'm thinking. I'm struggling.
SPEAKER_08:She was only 13 years old when she recorded this.
SPEAKER_10:Is it like the rocking around the Christmas? Yes, that is it.
SPEAKER_08:Tanya is still perfect.
SPEAKER_11:Tanya.
SPEAKER_08:All right, if you don't get this one, Holly, in the 12 days of Christmas, what gift is given on day five?
SPEAKER_11:Oh, the gold rings. Five. I gotta say. Lord, I don't want to eat.
SPEAKER_10:It wasn't just one. It's five.
SPEAKER_08:Okay, we're just gonna keep going, Holly, because you steal all the ones she gets wrong anyway. So which song begins with the lyrics chestnuts roasting on an open fire?
unknown:Chestnuts roasting.
SPEAKER_08:You're not gonna get it by singing it.
SPEAKER_11:Oh, I'm not.
SPEAKER_08:No.
SPEAKER_11:Okay.
SPEAKER_08:Well uh so what is it?
SPEAKER_11:Uh um chestnuts open. I don't know. I don't know. Uh Tanya Christmas song?
SPEAKER_08:That is correct. Oh, it's called the Christmas song. Um, here you go. Since you know so much about Mariah Carey's song, what year did Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas is You first release?
SPEAKER_11:I think it was in 2008.
SPEAKER_08:See, this is how quickly time goes by, right? Tanya, I'm sure you've got this too.
SPEAKER_10:94? That's correct.
SPEAKER_08:You are 1994.
SPEAKER_10:I am so impressed.
SPEAKER_11:31 years ago. I was a freshman. I am so impressed, Tanya.
SPEAKER_08:31 years ago. Oh. All right, a couple more to take away. No, I just love the critics.
SPEAKER_11:Sean, did you give her the No no.
SPEAKER_08:This is all random stuff.
SPEAKER_11:I'm so impressed. That's why I'm on the show.
SPEAKER_08:That's why she's on the show.
SPEAKER_11:No doubt, Tanya.
SPEAKER_08:We gotta wrap it up, but I gotta get these are all great questions. Um I am so impressed.
SPEAKER_11:I'm listening, yes, sir.
SPEAKER_08:Which which country is known for eating KFC on Christmas Eve? Country.
SPEAKER_11:Tanya knows this one. I owe her lunch. Um KFC on Christmas Eve.
SPEAKER_08:You know Christmas Christmas Eve.
SPEAKER_11:I I have no idea. I'm just gonna randomly say something. Say England.
SPEAKER_08:Tanya? Japan. Oh my gosh. How did you know that?
SPEAKER_11:How did you have to think of something coming behind the scenes? Tanya, I owe you lunch for that one. I'm impressed. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_10:How did you know that? You know how you just have little random facts that just No! You don't about like my husband has random facts about like every sport that is known to man. He is like that with the sports, I'm like that with the Christmas. John, Pinky promised me that you did not give these questions.
SPEAKER_08:I didn't do anything. All right. What toy, Holly, was the top-selling Christmas gift in 1998?
SPEAKER_11:In 98?
SPEAKER_08:So think of what's been a craze.
SPEAKER_11:Like I remember Cabbage Patch Kids, I remember Rubik's Cubes, I remember um, but I don't specifically know 98 off the top.
SPEAKER_08:Maybe the Atari? No, no. I'll let you go though. Give me another answer. Um before we get the one from I'm sure that Tanya has. Um do you know Danica? I don't know. Seneca?
SPEAKER_09:I don't know. Is it the Jack in the Box? No. Jack in the Box. Yes, that was a whole that was a whole thing. It was an elf. Leave me alone.
SPEAKER_08:Oh, it's an elf.
SPEAKER_11:Um really like it. I think I'm I mean I'm not thinking the Red Wagon.
SPEAKER_08:No, that's Wave. You're going Wave. This is 98.
SPEAKER_11:I know it's a year before Bryce was born. I'm trying to think. I think I may know this one.
SPEAKER_08:Really?
SPEAKER_11:No doubt. I'm not surprised if she knows this. Go ahead.
SPEAKER_08:Okay, and then we'll only have one question left because this is obviously How about the Furby? That is correct. You looked it up. Somebody get it looked at a watch. She cheated.
SPEAKER_10:I don't even have a watch.
SPEAKER_08:Did you? See, that's why we can't give her any extra power. She has to be.
SPEAKER_11:Okay, I'm not gonna lie. Someone did text me. Who was the Furby? Was it Erica? Yes, it was.
SPEAKER_10:The Grinch. The Grinch. And that is how the Grinch stole Christmas. Yes. Did you know the Furby? Seriously. Yeah, that was what I was gonna say.
SPEAKER_08:1998, the Furby. All right.
SPEAKER_11:And now Erica got me in trouble.
SPEAKER_08:Um okay, last one then. So we can uh wrap this thing up. It's been wrapped up since the first couple of questions. But um but this is still fun. Um How many ghosts, Holly, appear in a Christmas carol?
SPEAKER_11:Appear or like I think there's like four.
SPEAKER_08:Who are they?
SPEAKER_11:Uh the ghost of Christmas past, the present, the future, and then there's one more.
SPEAKER_08:Who is it?
unknown:Erica.
SPEAKER_08:This is this is Erica's time. I bet you Tanya knows. Oh, I don't even even know this.
SPEAKER_10:I'm trying to think though.
SPEAKER_08:You have the the big three, but who's the one that comes before the I know.
SPEAKER_11:I don't know. I turn it over to Tanya.
SPEAKER_10:I know who it is, and I can't think of his name.
SPEAKER_08:He was Scrooge's partner.
SPEAKER_10:Scrooge's partner? Yes.
SPEAKER_08:That was one of the movies that popped on while the dog was. Scrooge was the accountant, so this is the person that died that had worked with him, yes. Yes, and he's the whole reason why that's why the ghost is. He doesn't make the same mistakes. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_11:All right, give it to us.
SPEAKER_08:Jacob Marley. Marley. Yes. All right, one last question, Holly. What reindeer's name starts with a B? Oh, blitz and there you go. You can feel good on the finish there. You got oblivated. Four to nine. All right. And we kept asking her the questions. We didn't even give Tanya.
SPEAKER_11:Run over by a reindeer.
SPEAKER_08:She is Christmas persona.
SPEAKER_11:Absolutely.
SPEAKER_08:All right, now as we wrap up the show, we always take guest recommendations for entertainment and food. So since we're doing a Christmas show, um, maybe you give us what your favorite movie is, or is there something to binge, or is it uh a book or something? What's your favorite entertainment at Christmas time?
SPEAKER_10:My favorite movie, and a lot of people haven't watched it, is Prancer. Have you ever watched Prancer? Have not.
SPEAKER_08:Isn't that a that's a live action? Yeah, yeah. The reindeer.
SPEAKER_09:It's I don't know what that's that reindeer that got lost and then the little girl found out. The little girl. Yes.
SPEAKER_10:Yeah, and it's just there's so much heart, and she just brings like her, she's like the light to her town, and it's just so sweet. Like at the end, the whole town is just moved because of this one child.
SPEAKER_08:Prancer. Got that? Prancer. Prancer. And what um food would you recommend? This can be, you know, a restaurant to go to to get a good uh holiday meal that serves, you know, some do specials, or it could be something that you make yourself or have at the holidays. Chocolate chip cookies. Oh, yeah. Well, cookies you can't go wrong.
SPEAKER_11:That's right.
SPEAKER_08:Christmas is all about cookies.
SPEAKER_11:Yeah, it's all about sweets. Yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_08:Holly doesn't like chocolate.
SPEAKER_11:I'm not a big chocolate fan.
SPEAKER_08:See, is that weird or what? Have you ever met somebody that doesn't like chocolate?
SPEAKER_11:Yeah. I mean, it's okay. It's just not something that I would choose. Do you like sugar cookies? I do. With icing? Oh, yeah, absolutely. I'll make you cookies. I'm just not a big chocolate person. I'll make you some cookies. Bring me some cookies.
SPEAKER_08:Okay. And don't forget that Holly is taking you to lunch.
SPEAKER_11:Oh, yes. Oh, yeah, without a doubt. Oh, I pay my bets.
SPEAKER_08:That's that's what I figured would happen, to be honest with you, because she really is all about Christmas. She knows everything.
SPEAKER_11:She is, what do you call her?
SPEAKER_08:The director of the director of Holiday Hype.
SPEAKER_11:Holiday Hype. I just don't know. What's the next Holiday?
SPEAKER_10:Yeah, you need it for sure.
SPEAKER_08:What do we have next? Valentine's Day? Is that uh do you do hype for that?
SPEAKER_10:Um, I mean, I've been known to show up as Cupid. I really have.
SPEAKER_08:You took away my my idea for costume. What are you laughing at? Um, but seriously though, uh thank you, Tanya, for joining us. Thank you for having a good time talking the holidays. And uh yeah, you have a great spirit. And I'm glad you're here with us as well as well. She definitely makes us smile. She needs some PTO for what she does around here. And her little elf, Andrew, maybe as well.
SPEAKER_09:That's right.
SPEAKER_08:But uh, thanks, Merry Christmas, happy holidays, Merry Christmas. Um, and as always, thanks to uh our two other holiday-named people, Holly and Saneca, for uh helping out tonight. Uh, this is the last show of our first half of the year. Yeah. So we don't come back, Holly, until January 27th. All right. Because of all kinds of other things that are going on. But we'll be back and hopefully have some great guests to come on. Uh in the meantime, you can catch all the podcasts from the first half of the year, including this one on Spotify, Apple, wherever you get your podcasts. Um if you want to be a sponsor of the show, you can email me, JBoon, mypulseradio.com, for information. All the proceeds we get for this show will go towards our students to help them go on their annual show to New York City. So you can help uh you can help Seneca over there go to New York.
